ROYAL COMMISSION LEGISLATION
It’s been two years since Commissioner Hayne called his last witness at the Banking Royal Commission and only now is the Government releasing this legislation.
Labor will be holding the Government to its promise to implement the Royal Commission’s recommendations as we scrutinise the detail.
The Liberals voted against a Royal Commission 26 times.
They said it was a waste of time.
Then they dragged their feet in bringing forward legislation.
They have already walked back from Commissioner Hayne’s first recommendation to leave responsible lending obligations alone.
It took bravery for victims of bank misconduct to come forward to the Royal Commission.
They did so because they wanted to protect their fellow Australians from experiencing what they went through.
Labor will ensure their courage is rewarded and that Australians get the protection they deserve and were promised.
