The Jones Report - 22 February 2019

22 February 2019

If ever you were in doubt about the need for a Federal ICAC just run your eye through the list of scandals that have been unearthed in Parliament this week.

- It wasrevealed taxpayers footed the $288K legal bill to defend incompetent Minister Michaelia Cash in the AWU case.

- Finance Minister Mathias Cormann took free flights from travel Liberal-linked company that was awarded a $1B Government contract, then claimed he had 'no idea' he wasn't charged for them. I repeat, that's our Finance Minister.

-Agriculture Minister David Littleproud urged a consumer boycott against Coles and Aldi while holding shares in their direct competitor Woolworths

-Peter Dutton claimed he knew nothing about a $500M contract his department gave to an unknown company registered to a tin shack on Kangaroo Island.

- The Government isplanning to push ahead with a multi-million dollar contract to outsource visa processing to private sector. Dutton's good mate is vying for the contract

All caught up?

Labor will establish a National Integrity Commission to prevent, investigate and eliminate corruption inside the public sector and the federal government, and to restore the publics trust in politics and the public service.

Bill Shorten yesterday said the Helloworld debacle would be the first thing referred to a Federal ICAC under a Labor Government.

In Parliament this week I reminded people of the famous end to the Age of Entitlement Budget of 2014 and contrasted that with the Government's self-enriching antics

Ive been consulting with local mortgage brokers about the implementation of the Hayne Royal commission recommendations.

We had a good discussion in my office today about how we get the right reform without unintended consequences.

Great to catch up with my friends at the Senior's lunch in Shellharbour today.

The Dairy Industry has been a big focus this week in Canberra.

The Liberal and National parties blocked a floor price on dairy.

Farmers in my electorate, all the way down the South Coast and across the country are crying out for help, and they should take note that when their representatives in the Coalition had the chance to back them, they went missing.

I spoke about the issue in Parliament this week, you can watch my speech here

Participation in Womens Sport continues to rise rapidly across the country, yet at many sport grounds the amenities female athletes use were built long before this increase in participation.

I was able to secure some funding to help Football South Coast upgrade the amenities at Ian McLennan Park to make them more suitable for female footballers and athletes with a disability.

The upgrades include a disability toilet and change room and upgrade shower facilities, toilets and referee rooms.

A big shoutout to the kids learning to sail at the Oak Flats Sailing Club.

I'm pleased to support them with a grant of $5,000 from our Whitlam Stronger Communities Fund, and had a great time seeing them out on the water this week.

I joined NSW Deputy Penny Sharpe in Bowral as the Daley Express came through the Southern Highlands to campaign for Jo-Ann Davidson, Labor's Candidate for Wollondilly.

Jo-Ann has been an advocate for working people for most of her life.

She has seen how the lack of public transport, our under-funded public schools and crumbling health services have affected the local community.

Jo-Ann will work to make the Wollondilly electorate an even better place to work, live and raise a family.
