CHEAPER CHILD CARE FOR LOCAL PARENTS

THE HON STEPHEN JONES MP

ASSISTANT TREASURER

MINISTER FOR FINANCIAL SERVICES

MEMBER FOR WHITLAM

Cost of living relief has arrived for local families, with changes to the child care subsidy coming into effect from July 1st.

Today, Member for Whitlam Stephen Jones met with local child care provider, Big Fat Smile Shellharbour and parents to outline the Federal Government’s support package.

After a decade of neglect by the Coalition, the Albanese Government is committed to fixing child care, investing $4.5 billion into the sector.

From July 1st, Labor is:

  • Lifting the maximum child care subsidy rate to 90 per cent for low and middle income families for the first child in care;
  • Increasing child care subsidy rates for every family with one child in care earning less than $530,000 in household income;
  • Keeping higher child care subsidy rates for the second and additional children in care;
  • Extending the increased subsidy to outside school hours care.

Quotes attributable to Stephen Jones, Member for Whitlam:

“The cost of child care has never been higher. This Government support is crucial, because we know these fees are hurting the pockets of local families.”

“More than 1.2 million Australian families will be better off under our child care reforms. We are fixing the broken mess left behind by a decade of inaction by the Coalition.”
