Today, funding for Australia’s first Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre was secured. This is an important milestone in the Albanese Government’s plans to improve support for women and children affected by violence.
The Albanese Government is providing $25 million over five years to the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre to establish the new centre, with services expected to commence in late 2023.
Led by the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre, the centre will provide professional medical, mental health, social and legal support with programs co-designed by women with lived experience.
The establishment of the country’s flagship Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre will put the Illawarra in the forefront of strategies aimed at breaking the cycle of violence.
The centre is one of many measures supporting the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032.
