Labors Illawarra Team have this week launched their $1.2 billion plan to improve infrastructure and boost health and education services across the Illawarra and South Coast. Only the Labor candidates have set out a detailed plan to boost the economy, generate jobs and improve services for locals.
This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government which will give our region a fair go, or more of the Coalitions cuts and chaos.
We know that households of middle and working class families are under pressure, thats why Labor is focused on getting local priorities back on track.
Labors transport infrastructure commitments to the Illawarra and South Coast will see funds flowing sooner to projects like road upgrades. Labor will make early investments of:
- $150 million on the Princes Highway,
- $50 million on the Picton Road
- $50 million on Appin Road
- $50 million to restarting the long-stalled Maldon Dombarton Rail Link
More than $32 million will be invested in local community infrastructure, including:
- a new Batemans Bay Aquatic and Arts Centre,
- Surf Life Saving Clubs along the coast,
- Upgrading the home of netball at Fred Finch Park in Berkeley
- and the HARS Museum in Albion Park.
Labor is investing in schools with public schools across the region getting an additional $61 million. We will invest almost $15 million to ensure more than.
11,600 three and four year olds in the region can access 15 hours a week of preschool education in the two years before going to primary school.
We will invest $2 million to upgrade Nowra TAFE and provide access to the national fund for 100,000 free apprenticeships and traineeships.
Wollongong University will receive an additional $13.5 million.
Our plan supports kids as young as 3, all the way through to TAFE and University to ensure all local children get a quality education.
We will reverse cuts to Medicare and the Liberals $10 million cuts to local hospitals because good health care should depend on your Medicare Card, not your credit card.
Labor has committed $188 million to improvements at Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Eurobodalla Hospitals, will fund a new headspace centre and will provide access to free dental care for up to 78,000 local pensioners through the Pensioner Dental Plan. Labor will also invest $2.3 billion to slash the out-of-pocket costs for cancer patients with our Medicare Cancer Plan.
Whether it is easing pressure on family budgets, cutting childcare costs, delivering a better NBN or standing up for the rights of workers: Only Labor is committed to providing a fair go in the Illawarra and South Coast.
Labor can pay for our plan for the Illawarra and South Coast because we will make multinationals pay their fair share and close tax loopholes used by the top end of town.
In contrast Scott Morrison is spending billions on handouts to the top end of town but offering little in return.
We need real change, because after six years of cuts and chaos, the Illawarra and South Coast deserve better.
End the chaos. Vote for change. Vote for Labor.
