MEDIA RELEASE
Member for Whitlam, Stephen Jones and Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes have today visited Dapto Medical and Dental Centre to announce more than $2.4 million in Federal Government funding for Illawarra and Southern Highlands GPs.
Dapto Medical and Dental Centre, which has received a $50,000 grant is among 89 local GPs to benefit from the Albanese Government’s Strengthening Medicare – General Practice (GP) Grants Program.
Grants of between $25,000 and $50,000 are being provided under the program to expand patient access and improve services locally.
After a decade of neglect and funding cuts by the former Morrison Government, Labor remains committed to strengthening Medicare and boosting general practice across the nation. The GP Grants Program supports innovation, training, equipment, and minor capital works in one or more of these three investment streams:
- Enhance digital health capability
- Upgrade infection prevention and control arrangements
- Maintain and/or achieve accreditation against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for General Practices (5th edition).

Quotes attributable Member for Whitlam, Stephen Jones:
“After years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals, we are restoring Medicare and providing doctors the resources needed to invest in their practices.
“Our government has tripled the incentives for doctors to bulk bill, made medicines cheaper and now we are strengthening our GPs to ensure people can access safe, quality and affordable healthcare when and where they need it.”
Quotes attributable to Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes:
“This investment will support our GPs on the front line of our health care system.
“The Albanese Labor Government is committed to supporting general practice, improving patient access and boosting the services that GP clinics provide. This comes in addition to the fully bulk billed Medicare Urgent Care Clinic which opened in Corrimal in July.”
