MEDIA RELEASE
Wingecarribee Shire Council has received $40,000 in funding for a project to upskill local coaches and support sporting clubs in the region to encourage greater involvement of children and adults with disability and older people in their competitions.
It’s part of the Albanese Government’s Play Well Participation Grants Program which is providing up to $40,000 in funding to 29 local councils across the country.
Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Breaking Barriers: Fostering Inclusivity and Collaboration in Sports project will support local clubs and associations to address barriers to involvement in sport.
Through training and information sharing, the project also aims to highlight the similarities and shared experiences of different clubs and associations in the area and provide supports to address broader challenges being encountered by clubs and officials.
The Albanese Government is investing around $10.3 million for a total of 69 projects across the nation, so more Australians can enjoy the mental and physical benefits of sport.
Sports including surfing, golf, badminton, table tennis, AFL, rugby league, softball and orienteering will receive funding through the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) Play Well grant program.
