MEMBER FOR WHITLAM
MEDIA RELEASE
Illawarra and Southern Highlands locals are being encouraged to nominate an outstanding health professional or practice as part of the Stronger Medicare Awards.
The awards recognise and honour Medicare Champions that provide exceptional care, embrace innovation and work together to improve the health of the community.
Nominations are now open, and can also include hard-working people, such as receptionists or administrative staff who do not have health care profession qualifications but work for primary care services and go above and beyond to benefit patients.
The Albanese Government recognises primary care is the foundation of our nation’s healthcare system, delivered through general practice, community health centres, mental health centres, and allied health services. These professionals and their support teams are often the first place people turn to for their health needs.
Nominations close on Sunday 30 June 2024, with the Medicare Champions to be announced at a ceremony in Canberra in November later this year.

Quotes attributable to Member for Whitlam Stephen Jones:
“As we mark 40 years of Medicare being established by Labor, the Stronger Medicare Awards are about recognising that local person, team or health practice in our community that really goes above and beyond.
“Anyone can nominate a person for a Stronger Medicare Award, and I really encourage locals to consider shining the spotlight on a someone who is doing an extraordinary job.
“Whether you’re working at the front desk answering the phone and taking bookings, or you’re a nurse or GP delivering care, we want to recognise your hard work and dedication.”
