Sharon Bird, Federal Member for Cunningham and Stephen Jones today backed Kim Carr and Nick Champions calls for Industry Minister, Greg Hunt, to release the updated Anti-Dumping Commissions report on the impact of overseas steel makers in the Australian market prior to Fridays International Trade Remedies Forum (ITRF) to allow the ITRF to properly do its job.

This report has been sitting with the Turnbull Government for almost six months.

Sharon Bird said that this was yet another example of the Liberals refusal to take any real action to support the future of our local steel industry.

We wrote to Minister Hunt over a month ago and have had no response. This report has sat on his desk since the election. When will he get across his brief on steel?, Sharon Bird said.

Stephen Jones said Before the election the then Minister said that the Coalition was committed to a tough, bipartisan anti-dumping approach. Since the election they have done nothing.

Australias steel industry is too strategically important to be left in limbo like this by an unresponsive Industry Minister, Mr Jones said.

The two Federal Members also pointed to strong support also provided by their local State colleagues, Ryan Park and Anna Watson, along with Labors candidate for the Wollongong by-election, Paul Scully.

Labor calls on the Minister to release this report and start getting serious about supporting the workers and their families who rely on a strong and viable steel industry.
