Labors Stephen Jones and Justine Keay called on the Turnbull Government to invest in North West Tasmanian regional infrastructure and back Waratah Wynyard Councils waterfront masterplan.
Shadow Minister for Regional Services, Stephen Jones, said the Government had delayed for far too long and it was time to get the project moving.
This should be a no brainer for the Government, Mr Jones said
The Wynyard Waterfront Masterplan builds on other waterfront projects along the entire North West Coast enhancing liveability and tourism potential while supporting local jobs, local investment and greater social amenity.
Council has made a $3 million application under the Building Better Regions Fund and its time the Government come to the party and support residents and business in the North West.
Federal Member for Braddon Justine Keay said, At a state and federal level, Labor understands the value of this project to the community.
The project includes;
- Camp Creek rehabilitation,
- Improved Wynyard wharf access and carparking,
- Rebuilding of the seawall between the wharf and Wynyard Yacht Club,
- Construction of new boardwalk connecting the two areas and,
- Construction of a new multi-use facility on the site of the Wynyard Yacht Club
That is why at the last federal election, Federal Labor made a $2.876 million commitment to Waratah Wynyard Councils waterfront masterplan.
A similar commitment was made by State Labor during the recent state election with the State Government also making similar commitments.
The project has bipartisan support at a state level. All that remains is for Malcolm Turnbull to recognise its value and back projects that benefit the regions.
