MEDIA RELEASE
Local motorists are benefitting from smoother upgraded roads in West Dapto, thanks to an investment of more than $1.6 million by the Albanese Government.
It’s part of the government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 4, which is supporting Wollongong City Council to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in the Illawarra.
This includes resurfacing work at the following road sites in West Dapto, which are now complete:
- $730,000 in LRCI funding for the Princes Highway (Northcliffe Drive to West Dapto Road).
- $485,000 in LRCI funding for Reddalls Road (West Dapto Road to Keevers Place).
- $403,850 in LRCI funding for Short Street (Princes Highway).
Labor committed to providing an additional $250 million to local councils across Australia, as part of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Phase Program Phase 4 in May 2022 after significant flooding caused pothole damage to local roads.
From July 2023, LRCI Program funding recipients were allocated a total of $750 million in Phase 4 funding across Australia. As part of the Albanese Government’s LRCI Program Phase 4, Wollongong City Council receieved a total of more than $2.4 million for local projects including the road upgrades in West Dapto.
Quotes attributable to Member for Whitlam Stephen Jones:
“We promised to step up and fix local roads riddled with potholes and properly fund our councils, and we’re delivering on that promise. Our government’s $1.6 million investment in West Dapto roads is about safety and reduced cost-of-living pressures for Illawarra families.
“West Dapto is one of the fastest growing regional suburbs in New South Wales, and it’s important these major roads are up to scratch. I want to thank Wollongong City Council and our local workers for their efforts in getting these upgrades across the finish line.”
