After a record breaking spendathon where a struggling Government spent over $1 million a day of your money in an attempt to sell its lacklustre performance, the Prime Minister has finally asked the Governor General to hold an election.

Australians have been waiting for the opportunity to cast a verdict on the Abbott Turnbull Morrison affair since the Liberals axed Malcolm Turnbull last year.

ABC Illawarra has been telling local stories for 60 years. It was a pleasure to join the presenters and journos to celebrate 60 years of public broadcasting into the Illawarra, Southern Highlands and South Coast today.

Locally, the ABC supports the delivery of local and regional news, information gathering and emergency broadcasting.

It was great to catch up with all of the staff that produce fantastic local radio, as well as the ABC's acting managing director David Anderson at the Wollongong studios.

Netball is the Illawarras most popular womens sport with over 3000 members of the IDNA.

The home of netball in the Illawarra needs significant upgrades to enable this key sport to continue to grow and to potentially host state and higher level competitions.
